This will be the first post for the 1 Miss-ty Corner, before I begin, hello world! :D
... this took me half a month to write... I already wrote more than half within a week after the original (and supposed) publishing date, only for the other half to be delayed so long... God I should get my writing speed up to speed.
For readers actually reading this very blog, it's still empty over here for now, but I promise I will cover basically all concepts of the 1 Miss-ty and this very blog in general in a separate Page later. But for now, it's 1 Miss-ty time.
First half of the day... Thankfully no 1 Miss-tys on my trains (for today)
It was another normal day where I go out and meet my academic supervisor for discussions regarding my masters project, so yeah, touch grass day. And touch grass day = laundry day. Got up at 6am Didn't really sleep the night before thanks and no thanks to my revenge bedtime procrastination, took a bath and left for the station. Unlike my last meeting with my supervisor where I missed the perfectly no-problemo train [1], causing me a real bad 1 Miss-ty for having my trip being delayed by a whole hour... Welp, we won't talk about that.
The train has already arrived at the station when I tapped in the station (more like scanned in, or check in, since I was using its mobile app to get in), thankfully it's a human driven train so at least train drivers gave some mercy for those running towards the train, which that includes me.
Everything goes I can say... Pretty well. Aside from the slight hiccup from the bus where the bus needs a bit of wait (not a 1 Miss-ty I promise), others are in overall pretty good: Most campus staffs are on half day, no much problems with progress discussion with my academic supervisor. Since she's on half-day as well, she offered me a lift to the MRT station since it's around the same way of her return trip (Thanks!)... Aaaand the shopping is a breeze too since mum asked me to buy a shelving trolley from the IKEA nearby.
So I was sipping coffee at the IKEA Bistro, with a bag of freshly bought (unassembled) shelving trolley at the sides while scrolling for vouchers on Shopee (once again thanks and no thanks to my revenge bedtime procrastination), Poyo, a friend of mine from the Alliance of Malaysian Urbanists' Discord, sent a DM to me that goes: "Had lunch?"
With the sausage bun I bought on me, which that definitely isn't lunch, I replied: "Not really. Having a quick bite at IKEA Cheras here. Suggestions?". I have no idea for lunch, but that scroll on Shopee somehow helped a bit, since I saw a RM5 voucher for a banana leaf rice place at 1Utama on the e-vouchers section of the app, where we intend to go later for our laundry day. So idea pitched, he's down for banana leaf rice for lunch (and as dinner for the same time, since it's a eat-all-you-can kind), and now, laundry day.
First blood (literally on the first).
Reached the Bandar Utama MRT, where 1Utama is just a short walk in, and met up with Poyo. We first went to the arcade located near the bowling alley, CrossFire for one round of maimai (yes, I need to get used with the fact that maimai has no capital letters) to get the Chunithm daily ticket (the Molly arcade at the LG floor at the other side of the same mall doesn't have Chunithm).
... and lo and behold,
First blood on the very first track on the very first run.
Welp, 1 Miss-ty breached, it can't be helped, went on for Karakuri Pierrot and Urosousetsu (latter is the latest track from the finals of the recent King of Performai tournament, and Poyo happened to have it unlocked)...
And another 1 Miss-ty on Moon:Reflection before we moved on to Chunithm.
*sigh* Well, this 1 Miss-ty thingy will keep on going, trust me. *salutes*
Moving on to Chunithm for the ticket, while giving ourselves a 💀 Bad Time™ 💀 before that
(no 1 Miss-ty, more skill issue, skippable if you're here just for 1 Miss-ty)
Round 1 of laundry down, more to go. While we wait for the currently occupied Chunithm cabs to free up (there's one vacaant in Group A of the Chunithm cabs but we want to do a cab-to-cab play for the bonus 4th track), so Poyo suggested we try SDVX (or Sound Voltex, or SounD VolteX), where I jokingly requote him a conversation of mine back in 2020 to NekoGod, another friend of mine (if you're reading this section, he'll appear again around the end!):-
Yes, do check some D4DJ plays to get the context, D4DJ works almost the same, but instead of one, you get two in SDVX.
So upon a quick brief by Poyo, there are 20 difficulty rating in this game, ranging from Lv1 all the way to Lv20. but when I said "Let's just try Lv10!" given my prior rhythm game skills, he just stopped me, quoting, "It's too hard for you and me". So well, we started playing after a quick crash course by him.
First up, the funny ha↗ha↘ha↗ha↘ rabbit song
Human Rabbitality Project! by our ha↗ha↘ha↗ha↘ rabbit Vtuber Pekora, I started off forgetting the L and R fader notice exists (quick note, I do watched SDVX gameplay here and there), I somehow struggled on that for a bit. But in the end, I say as a complete beginner for this game, it's not very bad.
Yeah, 23 Misses (or Errors in SDVX) for Tsunami notes is a yikes, even with prior D4DJ knowledge.
Next up, trying out Sawawa's remix of Setsugetsuka, turns out...
There are signs of 1 Miss-ty starting to float in there. 1 Miss (or Error) on Tsunami notes. Bigger yikes.
For the last track in SDVX for the day, I just decided that we all will have a 💀 Bad Time™ 💀 by going in the Advanced difficulty (the second difficulty selection for the game) of Megalovania, an Undertale classic, and a Lv13 in difficulty rating...
... and we died. Very badly, to the point we were laughing from getting totally overwhelmed and forgetting to snap a pic... Yeah, that kind of overwhelmed.
SDVX first experience done, back to Chunithm. Aside from an S from Hana to, Yuki to, Drum 'n Bass., others are still pretty much yelling "Need more practice to even getting a 1 Miss-ty!", though I'm not fully committed into Chunithm, given I'm here just for the x2 daily ticket and D4DJ's Maho as my partner character.
So here's all 4 in one photo collage (Chunithm sadly doesn't let you export one of their track results as an image).
Quote Poyo: "You always went for the familiar ones."... and he's right, most are familiar tracks I usually play in maimai. Though I almost picked Megalovania again when we go cab-to-cab, but given what a bad time we had in SDVX, probably that's enough for having more bad times for today XD
Food? 1 Miss-ty? How?
So, x2 ticket obtaining done, food time. We started from the 5th floor went all the way down to the LG floor, looking for Bananabro, the banana leaf rice shop I talked earlier. We at first thinking on splitting bills, given this is a RM5 voucher for the lunch set, but after some extensive digging, it's a RM5 voucher on a RM30 minimum purchase voucher... Well, we blame Shopee (and probably Bananabro?) for making the voucher terms so vague, so this is not a Miss to me and we just go in as one table.
The food is good [2], and it's been a while since I went to this shop and have a banana leaf rice. A nice perk from this shop is that you can ask for seconds, works something like an all-you-can-eat buffet, but you need to call the attendant if you want seconds. And yes, obligatory food pic [3] because food talk without the pic is not gonna get the talk anywhere:
We conceded our lunch + dinner after two full servings (imagine the serving of image above, x2), and I went for the counter to pay up, and here's the 1 Miss-ty part: For me who actually went once, I actually Missed the fact that taxes and service charges are charged separately, instead of included in the price tag. Yes, we used to have this kind of system back when GST was a thing, but given most price tags are tax-inclusive these days, there are still some that isn't following this system [4].
... and the RM5 voucher ends up being... Causing almost zero difference to our expected paying price. Reminder to self next time: Check whether taxes and service charges are inclusive (or not) in pricing next time.
But for reals here, RM20-ish for unlimited refill of banana leaf rice + various curries + various condiments is still a steal, can recommend if you're the type who have a hard time choosing *points back at me*. 8.5/10.
Rapid-fire before 8pm!
Lunch + dinner settled, we continue with our laundry day. And oh, why the specific 8pm? Me and Poyo came to 1Utama also with another objective: Shopping. Yes, two dudes out shopping for some nice cheap stuff like especially, bread. Breads are off for 50% at the bakery around that time since the supermarket is clearing 'em out.
Back to maimai, we go with Poyo's custom-made Wheel of Death to choose our tracks. Mainly consisting of very uncomfortable tracks for both of us (as in either high difficulty, or annoying charting of the notes), we always go for the YOLO tagline I told him, "If we die, we die."
... and I died. A 92.8713% on Amazing Misty [5] AMAZING MIGHTYYYY!!!!. Not really good, but an expected one since I can't play a lot of Lv13+ tracks (aside from Ochame Kinou, that one was the easiest Lv13+ track, hands down). Misty's not amazing today, but welp, there's little improvement there and we'll back get that another day.
... aaaand bonus before we leave for the quick shopping, another 1 Miss-ty on Rush Q QuiQ.
Rush Q? More like Rush 1 Miss-ty.
Full shopping bags, and yet 1 Miss-ty is still in stock
Back from the shopping, full of bread and soy bean (it's RM2 for each box!), back to maimai.
... and the shopping bag still has space for more 1 Miss-tys.
First, a Happy 1 Miss-ty Happy Synthesizer 1 Miss-ty (it's surprisingly an AAA 1 Miss-ty)...
... and Trusting ourselves on not getting another 1 Miss-ty, we jinxed ourselves immediately after that.
Yes, a 1 Miss-ty for us, both. And a salute for the 1 Miss-ty to pay respects.
And we continued. The 9th Anniversary Edition Cirno's Perfect Math Class is fun (we definitely didn't yell the "Baka baka!" chants, OK we actually did), but err two Miss notes. Welp, I'll take that. At least it's not a 1 Miss-ty.
... and onward to the next play credit...
Straight into the 1 Miss-ty lights, like a freaking moth, attracted to fire and burned itself to death. Ouch.
And in case anyone's wondering why the 8.0407% best score, Straight into the lights was a Perfect Challenge track, where I happened to play it during the release week (and never since then), since the player next to me is just a Perfect Challenge away to unlock it, and upon him asking "You mind if I go all four Stright into the lights?", I actually don't mind... Despite the difficulty on release week was cranked up to the max, which is just 1HP. One note that's not Perfect and it's all over... And I survived a few notes until I hit my inevitable demise for the challenge, hence the 8.0407%.
(Fun fact: At the very least I died an honourable death in Advanced difficulty, with a 78.0353% wherethis was challenged on the very same day I did the Expert difficulty one mentioned above.)
Well, the difficulty will eventually go loose every 7 days, starting from 1HP and Master difficulty during release week, it will increase its HP bars and reduce its difficulty requirement every week, and eventually after 28 days of release, one will be able to challenge it from Basic difficulty, the easiest difficulty selection, and with 300HP to spare in order to unlock said tracks to your selections. Not gonna ramble the mechanics more (I'm challenging the Perfect Challenge tracks when the HP bar reaches 300HP anyways since I don't progress fast so it doesn't matter to me much XD) so you can read more here.
Another 1 Miss-ty on DEADMAN'S BALLAD, a common Touch note miss (and reminder to self, might wanna check note timings for touch notes?).
So we're reaching the end of the day: I need to get to the train and Poyo needs to catch a bus back (it's around 9:30pm, but we're ending that day since we're a bit tired now after so many rounds and we need to go home and the mall is closing at 10pm).
Credits in, back on playing...
And I Did My Best... On getting one last 1 Miss-ty for the day XD
Final track for the day, proving my friend a point, and it's a wrap!
And before we end the day, me and Poyo loved doing what we call the "Track to end the day ritual". We normally end the day with Tsunagite, the track that was revealed as the final track in the 2024 edition of the King of Performai tournament, shocking generally all maimai players since it was also revealed to be the second ever track with Lv15 difficulty, the highest difficulty in the game, after PANDORA PARADOXXX debuted to and being the first to have it (Fun fact: Lv14 used to be the highest, but it was adjusted to Lv15 in the DX Plus version).
... but today we do the other way round. Instead of Tsunagite, it's PANDORA PARADOXXX.
And difficulty locked on Re:Master difficulty.
So for those reading the earlier parts of this post, you'll know that I mentioned NekoGod will appear in the end. And here is where he appears. I kid you not, dude actually spent weeks to go through Tsunagite, and finally passed it on his 35th try (80.0000% is the passing point), while he passed PANDORA PARADOXXX with merely 7 tries, and with the similar skill rating as mine.
He challenged me on a, quote, "Try both Tsunagite and PANDORA PARADOXXX on Re:Master", and I accepted it. And no, there aren't any winners, we're just there for the lols and giggles and see if we died (Spoiler: I actually died pretty badly). I told him I'll be doing today (not to mention two weeks prior, as well earlier today) [6][7], and we joked on doing the "TRG stare into your soul" stare (Spoiler: I actually did it, but no video proof, and I'm not gonna upload that either way), knowingly we are fully locked in when a track is ongoing and we cannot really do those little tricks the maimai Gods did on camera, heck even live during the King of Performai tournament (yes, TRG is one of the finalists for the International division and yes, he did that to the camera live).
Poyo is also down for the challenge, given this is also his first time trying PANDORA PARADOXXX in Re:Master difficulty.
We took a quick rest, a short water break, and we opened the Pandora Box...
... aaaaand boom. I died miserably. (it's actually not too bad, especially for me, who barely touches tracks on Lv13+ and above, let alone a Lv15).
At the same time, Poyo actually passed it on the first try with a 83.6084%... Though he admitted he cheesed the most of it due to the very high note density, but well it's understandable, but a pass is still a pass, which is still good.
I mean, look at the difference of the amount of Miss notes of mine and his. A huge gap.
And nope, we aren't trying that again. It's a one-off thing and not gonna try it again in the foreseeable future (for now).
And sending it to NekoGod, he just gave a simple reply:
Yes. Those non-Critical Perfect Breaks deleted 2.53% from my total score. But hey he had a point, a close to 80% score is not too bad... Compared to Re:Master Tsunagite where I only got 72.6671%... This is better.
So with the end of this suicidal adventurous attempt of Re:Master PANDORA PARADOXXX, marks the end of the day. A quick pack up of our stuff, get our shopping bags, refilled some water, and we left for the MRT station. Poyo got off at Surian MRT (where he later told me he thankfully got onto his bus home in time) while I am on my way to Metro Prima to get picked up home by my dad while he's off for some badminton a few hours prior.
Well, this is a long one. Took me too long to write too. As of the time I'm completing the final parts (it's the 12th of April now, almost three quarters of a month since that day), there are many more 1 Miss-tys, those were from Project Sekai (anything prior today won't be covered though, I'm not bothered to write more).
I could cover more and ramble more, but this will be the end for now. See y'all next time, and keep paying your 1 Miss-ty tax XD
Footnotes
[1] Disclaimer, not really a Miss per se, since I intended to take that time's train that was problematic to begin with, but it's still a 1 Miss-ty since I missed the chance to get on the perfectly normal train).
[2] Disclaimer on the "The food is good" part: I have a very wide (and I mean VERY WIDE) of taste acceptance range, your range might differ with mine so please please take my words with a bit of salt and probably some MSG XD
[3] Fun fact: Believe it or not, the photo was taken after we asked for seconds. Yes, we were hungry, OK maybe not really for my case since I chomped down a sausage bun prior, but Poyo definitely is since he only had breakfast prior.
[4] Hold it, put down your pitchforks, IIRC shops are not required by law to use pricing that has taxes + service charges charges separately (but they normally will beforehand, either verbally or printed), though correct me if I'm wrong.
[5] Amazing Misty is a joke my friend from another group made, mainly caused by the Mimi XD bot, a Discord bot focusing on maimai, pointed AMAZING MIGHTYYYY!!!! when the search query "Misty" was typed in, and quote Lilac, "We're calling it Amazing Misty from now on", and hence become a running joke in the other group of friends of mine.
